Since Microsoft released the Kinect for the Xbox 360 over a year ago, hackers and DIYers have had their hands full with creating lots of awesome mods and hacks using the advanced technology. Previous hacks include utilizing the camera’s sensors and lenses to create 3D video capturing, awesome shadow puppets, and an interactive water simulation on dry floor. Still, this hack has me pretty interested in the possibilities of Minority Report-style control of music. In the above video, our hacker is seen cuing and editing a music mix using taps and gestures the Kinect registers as input. The left half of the video features clips he is presumably looping and syncing with the music. the clips are a bit weak for using as a visualizer, but I can imagine a not-so-distant future wherein we control our whole visual and aural setting using software and hardware. Insert your own psychedelic reference here. I refuse: it’s too easy.
Now if only Korg and Microsoft would combine forces to make this thing an unbelievable reality.
